Accessible Bathroom Renovation Restoring Confidence and Independence
Halton Property Service; Accessible bathroom renovation

When our client got in touch, the brief was clear and deeply personal. She wanted to continue enjoying a bath in her own home but could no longer safely access her existing bath due to mobility concerns. The priority was to create a more accessible bathroom that restored confidence, reduced the risk of slips, and allowed her to bathe independently, all without making the space feel clinical or overly adapted.

During our consultation, we spent time understanding how the bathroom was used and what made the current setup unsafe. While many clients opt to remove the bath entirely, this client was keen to retain the comfort and familiarity of bathing. The challenge was finding a solution that balanced safety, dignity, and practicality while blending seamlessly with the existing bathroom design.

Our design solution centred around sourcing a walk-in mobility bath with a side-entry door, allowing safe and easy access without stepping over a high bath edge. To further enhance comfort, the bath features double drainage, significantly reducing the time spent waiting for the water to empty before opening the door, a crucial consideration for mobility and temperature comfort. This small but important detail made a big difference to everyday usability.

Additional accessibility features were carefully integrated into the space. Grab rails were installed to provide support when entering and exiting the bath, alongside a shower seat for added stability during showering. A riser rail with a handheld shower offers flexibility and ease of use, while a shower curtain was chosen to keep the space practical and familiar. To avoid clutter and maintain ease of movement, we included a slimline storage solution, ensuring toiletries were within easy reach without encroaching on valuable floor space. Tiles were carefully sourced to closely match the existing ones, allowing the new installation to blend naturally with the rest of the bathroom.

To deliver the project, we began by removing the existing bath and preparing the space for the new walk-in installation. New plumbing was installed to accommodate the mobility bath, including fitting an external waste pipe to support the double drainage system. This ensured efficient water removal and reliable performance.

We installed a new riser rail and shower, along with grab rails positioned precisely to the client’s requirements. We worked closely with her throughout this stage, carefully liaising on placement to ensure each rail was exactly where it felt safest and most comfortable to use. Replacement tiling and fresh grouting completed the installation, leaving the bathroom clean, cohesive, and easy to maintain.

The result is a thoughtfully adapted bathroom that allows our client to safely enjoy her bath once again — without worry or fear of slipping. The project was completed on time and to a high standard, with care and reliability at every stage. Our client was particularly appreciative of our punctuality and the fact that we cleared away thoroughly each evening, ensuring minimal disruption throughout the works.

If you’re looking to make your bathroom safer and more accessible — whether for now or for future needs — we can help you create a space that supports independence while still feeling like home.
