From Daily Chaos to Calm: A Teenage Bathroom Redesign in Pennington
Halton Property Service; Daily chaos to calm, clean modern bathroom

When a family approached us to renovate their teenage bathroom, the brief was clear: the existing space simply wasn’t working for everyday life. With two teenage children sharing the bathroom, busy mornings and evenings had become stressful. The shower was too small, the bath was rarely used, storage was limited, and having only one basin was causing regular bottlenecks. The goal was to completely reimagine the room into a practical, modern space that could cope with daily use while remaining easy to maintain.

During the consultation, we focused on how the bathroom was used in real terms. For this family, the bath had become surplus to requirements, while a large, comfortable shower and additional storage were essential. Creating separate zones for each teen was also important, helping the room feel more organised and reducing friction during peak times.

Our design solution centred around removing the bath entirely and replacing it with a large, spacious walk-in shower that immediately transformed how the room functioned. The generous shower area includes an overhead shower paired with a riser rail and additional handheld shower, offering flexibility for everyday use. Two recessed shower niches were built into the wall — one for each teen — providing dedicated storage for toiletries and keeping the space clutter-free.

To further improve usability, we installed two basins with wall-hung drawer storage, allowing both teenagers to use the bathroom at the same time without competing for space. The floating vanity unit keeps the room feeling open while offering ample storage for daily essentials. A sleek, illuminated mirror with demisting functionality adds comfort and convenience, particularly during busy mornings.

Visually, the bathroom was zoned using carefully selected tiling. Patterned tiles were used to subtly differentiate areas within the room, adding personality while maintaining a cohesive, modern look. The combination of hexagon tiles and textured wall tiles from Porcelanosa introduces depth and interest without overwhelming the space, making the bathroom both stylish and practical.

To deliver the project, the bathroom was completely stripped back to allow for a full reconfiguration. We renewed the underfloor plumbing and addressed existing drainage issues, as the previous toilet and shower had not been drawing efficiently. This required removing part of the downstairs ceiling to install a new drainage solution, followed by careful repair work to restore the ceiling below. All new electrical works were carried out to support the illuminated, demisting mirror, and the entire bathroom was fully plastered to ensure a flawless finish.

The installation phase included fitting the large shower with recessed niches, a full-height glass shower screen with an easy-clean system, and chrome brassware for a clean, timeless look. A wall-hung double drawer vanity unit with mounted basins, a new WC, and durable vinyl tile flooring completed the transformation.

The result is a spacious, highly functional bathroom that works effortlessly for two teenage children. The new layout reduces daily stress, provides plenty of storage, and is easy to keep clean — proving that thoughtful design can make a huge difference to everyday family life.

If your bathroom no longer suits how your household functions, we can help you redesign it around real-world use, creating a space that’s practical, stylish, and built to last.
