This en-suite bathroom renovation in Hordle started with a simple but powerful idea — to create a calm, spacious retreat where our client could truly unwind at the end of a long day. The challenge, however, was working within a narrow room that needed to deliver both practicality and a sense of luxury. Achieving that balance required a complete rethink of the layout and a design that made the most of every inch.

To transform the feel of the space, we focused on visual techniques as well as physical layout changes. One of the most effective design decisions was running wood-effect tiles horizontally through the shower area, which immediately gives the illusion of width and opens up the room. This simple but impactful detail changes how the space is perceived from the moment you walk in.

A large walk-in shower with a sleek glass screen was installed to maintain an open, uncluttered appearance. By avoiding bulky enclosures, the room feels more expansive and fluid, which is essential in a narrower layout. The shower area becomes a standout feature without dominating the space.

Material and finish selections were key to achieving the desired boutique hotel feel. Carefully chosen gunmetal brassware introduces a subtle, high-end edge, adding contrast and sophistication without overwhelming the softer tones in the room. Light grey tiling wraps the space, keeping the overall palette calm and cohesive while reflecting light to enhance the sense of openness.

Storage and practicality were thoughtfully integrated throughout the design. A wall-hung toilet with concealed pipework helps keep the floor area clear, contributing to a clean and streamlined finish. This is paired with a floating vanity unit featuring deep drawer storage, allowing everyday essentials to be neatly tucked away while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. Every element was chosen to ensure the room feels effortless to use and easy to maintain.

Comfort was just as important as appearance. Underfloor heating was installed to provide a consistent, gentle warmth underfoot, adding a layer of everyday luxury that makes a real difference, particularly in the colder months. Lighting was also carefully considered, with a circular mirror that can shift from bright, functional light to a softer, warmer glow — perfect for creating a more relaxing atmosphere in the evening.
