Sometimes the biggest improvements come from opening up a home and rethinking how the space is used. This recent kitchen renovation in Lymington was all about transforming a dark, disconnected layout into a bright, welcoming space designed for modern living. Our client wanted somewhere they could enjoy a morning coffee, cook, and spend time with family and friends without feeling separated from the rest of the home.

The existing kitchen and dining room were divided by an internal wall, creating two smaller spaces that felt closed off and restrictive. While the kitchen itself was functional, it lacked the openness and social feel that our client was looking for. The brief was simple: create a brighter, more connected environment that would become the heart of the home while maximising storage and incorporating high-quality appliances.

To achieve this, we completely reimagined the layout by removing the dividing wall between the kitchen and dining room. Working in accordance with structural engineer specifications, we installed the required steel support, allowing the two rooms to become one large open-plan space. This single change dramatically altered how the property feels, flooding the area with light and creating clear sightlines across the room.

The redesign also presented an opportunity to improve functionality behind the scenes. We relocated the boiler to free up valuable kitchen storage, upgraded the electrical installation, added new heating pipework, and prepared the entire area for new flooring. These improvements ensure the space performs as well as it looks, providing a future-proof foundation for everyday living.

At the centre of the new kitchen is a beautifully designed peninsula island, which helps define the kitchen zone while maintaining the open-plan feel. The peninsula provides additional preparation space, informal seating, and extra storage, making it one of the hardest-working features within the room. It also creates a natural connection between the cooking and dining areas, encouraging conversation and interaction while meals are being prepared.

The kitchen itself is packed with thoughtful details and premium appliances. An AEG downdraft extractor was chosen to maintain clean sightlines across the room, removing the need for an overhead extractor hood and helping preserve the sense of openness. Cooking is supported by a top-of-the-range Neff Hide & Slide oven, renowned for its innovative disappearing door and exceptional performance. A Quooker tap provides instant boiling water, adding convenience to everyday tasks and reducing countertop clutter.

Storage was a major focus throughout the design. Clever solutions such as carousel corner units, integrated waste bins, and a pull-out pantry ensure every inch of space is used efficiently. These features make the kitchen easier to organise and use, helping to keep worktops clear and the room feeling calm and uncluttered.

This project is a fantastic example of how thoughtful design, structural alterations, and quality craftsmanship can completely transform the way a home is experienced.
